Hands down the best pizza and calzones in St. Pete! We visited last week and each had a calzone and wine. The crust is buttery; baked and seasoned perfectly. We built our own. Mine was stuffed with mushrooms and spinach. His was of the meat lovers variety. The cheese was full of garlic goodness. Both were enormous and provided us with a second helping for the next day's lunch. I love the atmosphere at Cappy's. The front terrace eatery transports me to my travels to other beloved towns across America, but with a backyard neighborhood feel. Its a Craftsman style classic wedged amidst Historic Kenwood and Grand Central, an area that is experiencing an exciting resurgence of restaurants, shops and restored structures. It's comfortable and familiar, and romantic with its strung Edison lighting. You can't help singing along to the oldies playing in the background, and talking about time passed with the music memorabilia all around.

Huh, not impressed. I had veggie pizza in the Chicago deep dish style with addition of black olives. Thick crust was like biscuit with strong yeast aftertaste. White cheese at the bottom didn't taste fresh and too salty for mozzarella. The top layer, probably 10% of whole pie, was tomato sauce with finely chopped onion, ham, peppers. No. I had expected sweet juicy flavorfully stewed tomato sauce brimming with chunky hearty veggies, almost spilling over from crispy crust. What's in front of me was instead half inch thick soft dough covered in uninteresting tomato sauce. Sadly, One of our knives was dirty, service is offhand. I seem to hit their bad day.

Had been told about this really good pizza that could be found in St. Pete and yep, it is! It's a seat yourself atmosphere and the wait staff finds you. The are very attentive. The pizza is delish and instead of a mint, you get double bubble bubble gum! The decor is very inviting. You literally are in a house. Menus are laminated LP covers.

We have eaten here twice and each time I've had a great experience. Cappy's is the place to go or order from for Pizza.! Very welcoming and attentive. My husband and I ordered the NY Style Pizza and both times it was delicious. Very flavorful...probably one of the best pizzas I've had ever! They have a lot of varieties and other options on the menu such as salads etc. I do personally know from seeing a friends salad portion while dining in that it is enough to feed 3 easily. Great food, amazing service, can't beat it.

We had been here a few times and really loved it. However the last few times we have been here, we have been let down. The service has been slow, and the food quality has gone down. We have had way better pizza at tikanis. We use to get the deep dish but the toppings have seem to gotten smaller and not nearly has plentiful as they use to be. Maybe in a few months we will try and see how they do.

Just ate here for the first time and was really pleased! Service was really friendly and the food was awesome.

Cappys is great! The Greek salad is amazing! Has a sweet taste to it and potato salad on top. My aunt has the calzone each time she comes and it's beyond huge! Wine is served in a stemless glass. Good for me because I spill. Service is good. Except we sat outside for about 10 minutes when they first opened. So I had to go inside and ask for a server. Only downfall. Great prices! I will be back!

Ordered the deep dish. Would describe it as quite good ...not quite as good as going to one of the upper echelon places in Chicago, but still solid and worth a recommendation.

Solid old-school pizza in a 70's themed relaxed atmosphere. If you grew up in the 70's Cappy's will bring back fond memories. Menus are on laminated albums from the 70's, kitschy decor, warm wood booths and floors, cute outdoor patio, hip friendly wait staff, and regular old school pizza. If you're looking for 25 varieties of coal-fired pizza with arugula, buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, or prosciutto as options - this ain't your pizza place! BF and I ordered a small Greek salad to start - great salad with lovely feta, homemade dressing, and the perfect size for splitting. Then we ordered a large New York pizza (1/2 veggie, 1/2 Cappy) - loaded with toppings and like pizza used to be - ha! Can't wait to come back!

If you claim to like pizza and haven't eaten here than you should be ashamed of yourself!! By far one of the best pies in the city! I think the one thing I like better than their pizza, is the home restaurant style. Walking into the restaurant really makes you feel like you have been invited over to someone's house for dinner.

This place is in a great location and it's really quant. The menus are on record albums and the decor is great. The Greek salad was really big (small is for 2 ppl) and tasty. We ordered the Cappy and veggie large New York style pizza which was pretty large. The crust was great but i must admit the taste was bland on both pizzas. You had to add things like garlic, red peppers and parmesan for it to taste less bland. They have a nice beer selection and the atmosphere was great. The servers were all nice. Not sure i would come back. All in all not more than ok.

Oh Cappy's, how I love thee. What is not to love about vinyl album menus, an old Florida bungalow, bulb string lights, and awesome food? The service is always friendly and pretty quick. Don't expect to get fast service on a weekend night, though. This place is popular and fills up fast. I absolutely love the Greek salad--especially the potato salad therein; it's to die for. You can't go wrong with either the New York or deep dish style pizzas. My only piece of advice is to dine in. For some reason, the crust gets tougher on their pizza when it has been sitting for some time. Therefore, take out here isn't the greatest. One of the best pizza spots in St. Pete!

This is, hands-down, a great pizza place. Here's what I do, almost every time: Greek salad, cheese bread, and pizza. YOU MUST TRY THE CHEESE BREAD. They also make a phenomenal Greek salad. The pizza is nicely done, but honestly, I go there for the bread and the salad. They have self-service beer and soft drinks, which is nice because they have a good size beer selection. I've always had fantastic service; I've never had a bad meal. This is solid food and a solid business. I don't give them a fifth star because of the beer. See, I'm kind of done with craft beer and it would be nice to see more beer that wasn't brewed by Swedish monks or whatever - you know, cheap beer for pizza. They have some but not enough that I like. I know, I know, you can't please everybody. Corona Light, guys, that's all I'm asking.

Seriously disappointed with this place. I really thought we had found a good local pizza place, but I was wrong. The Chicago deep dish was awful. I had to take the first one back, and the second one was just as bad. Not impressed at all. Definitely should stick with Westshore and Flippers. It's a shame I can't get my money back for this horrible pizza.

Since I grew up in this area, it's a wonder I never been here, though I've passed it several times. It's actually a house in the middle of a very residential neighborhood and next door to a dance studio. The décor is nice, quite fitting for their business...hardwood floors, outside seating, very nostalgic posters of Audrey Hepburn, James Brown, Donny Hathaway among others--there's a warmth and strength in the décor so even though it doesn't look like the contemporary modern the booths provide a comfy yet vintage atmosphere. Though it was late Sunday night when I arrived, there were several other customers here, yet not too packed. I could hear laughter and see smiles and noticed there were a lot of different small groups of people here enjoying themselves which is a good thing. I came here because of the positive Yelp reviews, and so glad I did. I ordered the deep dish veggie pizza in advance by phone and decided to eat in once I got there. The server was very nice and checked on us frequently and I noticed that another server was very prompt and good about checking on another nearby table as well. The verdict: this pizza was so Yum Yum Yum Yum! My daughter and I ate most of it before we left, and I couldn't get enough of the Pizza Crust! I am def a pizza crust kinda person and it was so good because it was not too salty or too buttery like most crust. Perfectly flaky and melt in your mouth, the pizza sauce totally brings this dish to great heights! When I lived in NY, I had been to an Uno's Pizza and it reminded me a lot of the Chicago style pizza I had all those years ago. Bottom line: Between the cozy atmosphere (PS - there were also white Christmas lights with thick bulbs outside which at night could give it a romantic atmosphere), the awesome service and high quality pizza - Cappys will be around for a long time and I plan on coming back. Be careful, after having a Cappys pizza you will crave another one!

I don't know why it has taken me so long to write a review for Cappy's. My wife and I order the Chicago Style Meatball Pizza for one cheat day every month and we are still going strong. Cappy's is the principal image of a quaint local pizza shop. Only its a small but growing chain with good reason to grow. They have a good variety of Pizza styles, pleasant setting and very approachable and engaging staff. By the third time there the staff remembered our names and our order. Because we essentially always order the same thing I can only discuss how my Chicago performs but it's pretty fantastic. I've never eaten a pizza from Chicago but I've been to other restaurants in San Fransisco and New York who claim Chicago style Pizza and this stands with the best. The crust is soft but thick with a light seasoning. The texture is reminiscent of a cornbread crust. The dough is thick throughout the pizza so if this is something you dislike be aware but I enjoy thick hand tossed pizzas. There is a heavy layer of tomato sauce over the cheese which has been consistent in all the Chicago styles I've tried. The tomato sauce is not heavily seasoned but this allows the flavors of the seasoned cheese and crust to really punch through in a pleasant and consistent quiet reveal. The meatballs add to the tomato sauce points of distinct savory flavor. I don't know if I would like any other Pizza as much as the one we order but I don't plan to find out. As long as they continue with their beautiful decor, pleasant staff and delicious Chicago Style Meatball Pizza they will be at the top of my list. Note: I gave a 4 star because yelp doesn't allow me to do 4&1/2. I only avoid 5 because I have so limitedly experienced their menu and can't confirm that everything is as good as the one I love.

Although I picked up the pizza and we didn't eat in, the atmosphere of Cappys is quite nice. There is an outside seating area and several indoor seating areas that are separated by the space of the house/business location, all of which looked nice. The large NY style pizza we ordered was done and ready for pickup in 15 minutes. Being from NY I thought the pizza was very good, although not exceptional. The crust was thick and tasty, the sauce was very good but there could've been a bit more of it as well as more toppings. Both were sparse, but the overall impression of the pizza and the restaurant was enough to give this place 4 stars and a promise that we'll be back...this time to eat at Cappys to enjoy the ambiance.

Best pizza in St. Petersburg! Love the thin crust! Salads are good and plentiful too! Only disappointment is they are not open in the daytime.

Cappys is a favorite with my family because it has interesting typing choices and you can get either Chicago or new York style pizza. They also have interesting premises being on an old house. The beer selection it's pretty good and they have trivia cards at the tables. My family week talk to each other here more than everyone being on their devices.

This is a favorite of the family. We come here often. Love the laid back feel and the always wonderful pizza. My uncle loves deep dish and this has some of the best around.

Delicious pie! We were not far away at my parent's new place and after a day out on the water I was looking for ample sustenance for a large group of people. With our group we had a decent cross section of pickiness and Cappy's made it easy. The main challenge is that my sister's family is vegan and let's just say Florida isn't the easiest spot to find vegan food. Anyway I ordered them their veggie pizza no cheese. The girls said the pizza was great! I also did a regular veggie pizza and a handful of pepperoni pizzas. The guy who took my order was super helpful and accommodating when I explained what I was looking for. Forewarning, they put garlic powder on top of the veggie pizza. I panicked at first when I opened it up because I thought it was parmesan but luckily not. For 6 pizzas my total was just over $70. I'd say that's a great deal for the quality and to feed 8 adults and three kids. Definitely a delicious spot if reco.

We usually have pizza at home on Friday nights, so we decided vacation Fridays should be no different. This place was recommended above all other pizza in the area, so we had to try it. They have outdoor seating, but it was still 90 degrees at 6 pm so we ate inside. I love the fact that I can go into a restaurant in Florida and not freeze to death after a hot day in the sun. The temperature was just right, and w had a nice booth by a window. We had the small Greek salad, which is a lot like the salad from Olive Garden, but better. The small was more than enough for two of us. We ordered the small New York style pepperoni pizza, which was three small to average sized pieces each, and was plenty after having the salad. I loved the crisp crust, although I understand why some say it is tough if you don't eat it right out of the oven. They do not have sweet tea, so I only gave them four stars

The Cappy's NYC style sent my my senses to New York! The fresh tomato, garlic, spinach and black olive light on the cheese caused quite an oral sensory orgasm! Behind Grimaldi's this is the best around. Check it out tonight!

Here, you will find Pizza, not just pizza. There are exactly two pizza establishments in Pinellas county that I love and that I will happily eat at, and this is one of them. Unlike most, sub-par pizza joints, this Pizza will not betray you. No more will you pull a chunk of cheese and toppings off the pizza as you try to take a single bite, only to find yourself sad and dismayed by the greasy lump of dairy now sitting on your nice new white blouse (because doesn't sauce always end up on white clothing?). No, this cheese is expertly applied to a thin but dense crust. THEN topped, then sauced. The cheese no longer escapes (although you're still not immune to the sauce-on-white-clothing phenomenon), and it's delicious. Don't expect to eat more than a piece or two though unless you have an iron stomach, this pizza is dense. The only thing that made this place not get 5 stars was the service. They were probably understaffed when we dined-in, but it took forever just to get a refill.

We moved here about 4 months ago and have been eating blah to mediocre pizza since then. I feel like I've been crushing my soul. Thankfully Cappy's rescued me. I love pizza. If I could marry it, I would. Thanks Obama. Will return a million times over. I might just buy the place and then never allow any of you to enjoy this delicious pizza.

A cool old house as a local pizza place! Service was so so but a nice patio to chill at. Ordered Chicago style and it was tasty BUT is not really deep dish but more like a pizza hut pan style... if you want a chicago style this is going to be a disappointment.

I love Cappy's Pizza! It is one of my favorite spots for pizza and usually when I want pizza for a cheat meal...I come here. I tried the bay to bay blvd location, but the pizza in St. Pete tastes better to me. Cappys looks like a old house and when you walk in you seat yourself. Its kind of on the dark side and quiet in there so the trivia cards on the table help spark good conversation. They have a NY Style more traditional pizza and a deep dish pizza. Whenever I go I start with a tossed salad and get the Cappy that has everything on it and deep dish because I live crust. Sometimes I order the veggie and add chicken too. Everything about that pizza is amazing to me. The crust is nice and thick and buttery with cornmeal I think in it which makes it really different and tasty. The ingredients are on the bottom with cheese and then they put fresh tomato sauce on top. I like that the pizza isn't greasy and flat. I can only usually eat about 3 pieces before I am ridiculously full. I think for a large pizza and salad plus 2 drinks we paid around $30. More expensive than pizza hut, but a better pizza with quality ingredients. Note: They dont take cards, ugh! I never have cash and I always forget.

The absolute WORST deep dish pizza I have ever had. 75% crust, hardly any toppings, and way too much sauce. And hardly any cheese. I would give this place 0 stars... Dont believe me, go order one! Frozen pizza tastes better. Atleast then you expect what your getting. minimal toppings, prolly frozen in bags. I expected much better than this. But then again, how can we expect anyone in Florida to know how to make decent pizza or mexican food. Sorry for the rant, I will never be going back here. No matter if this is a one off or not. Here's a breakdown of their "Deep dish" 1" thick .75" dough .25" left for toppings, cheese & sauce. 75% dough 15% sauce 5% toppings 5% cheese Should be called "Crappys Pizza"

    (1)
  • Joseph K.

So far the best pizza place in St Pete. Crust has a good crisp crunch with soft dough inside, cheese is stringy and not greasy, sauce is great. The ambience and decor is cool, menus on old record covers. They carry range of craft bottle beers, pricing is decent. Service is amazing!

In the last month, I have eaten more chicago style pizzas than I have my whole life (which until a month ago was zero!) My sister and brother in law had been raving about this place, we absolutely must try it. We arrived as they open, as insiders know the place gets PACKED. It's in an old converted house, with wooden booths in different rooms, trivial pursuit cards at the table. Since my hubs is typically non pork eating and I'm non veggies on my pizza eating, we had to make it difficult with halving the pizzas - which turned out to not be difficult at all, even with a curve ball thrown at our server. We got the deep dish, half cappy, half something without veggies and we got a new york style, half cappy, half non pork. Would you believe that the 4 of us ate almost ALL of it?! (A med and large). It was super super delicious. Ambiance, price, food, location....I'll definitely be back!

Really good pizza remains elusive in St Pete...but Cappys is certainly top 2 or 3

We decided to try this place since it had an outside patio, the cheese breadaticks were pretty good and we decided to go for the Cappys pizza, i wa not very impressed by the flavor of the pizza and tasted like any other one. I will probably not be coming back, the service was not good either! I had to search for a waiter inside for help and they were not even busy! And on top of that they brought the breadsticks last...

Cappy's is absolutely awesome. New York and Chicago style pizzas are at the top in St Pete. Don't forget the Greek salad and some extra dressing.

Pizza is absolutely wonderful but the service on the night that we went stunk. Waited over an hour for our appetizer and didn't even get it until we asked someone who wasn't our server where it was. We hadn't seen hide nor hair of our server for the hour prior. Drinks empty, hungry and thirsty. Once food arrive, it was great. Would try again to see if service is better next time.

Simply disgusting. Plain and pricy. I would get better at dominos. I don't see how this place does business, I heard it was good and left totally disappointed. I would have asked for my money back, but that's not the kind of person I am, I totally wanted to though.

My first experience with Cappys was last year when they hit the news for saying (and I'm paraphrasing here) "we don't want your kids running around unsupervised in our establishment." Parents took offense, and singles, people who hate spoiled kids and lazy parents took to their defense. So even before trying the place, I was a fan. While I wasn't really in the mood to drop money (much to my girlfriend's chagrin) me and my friend's wife were convinced to go out and we settled on Cappys. I'm glad we did. This place is a quaint local gem. Built in a former home, each room is unique, there is plenty of outdoor seating, which is great for this warm January weather, each menu is uniquely made on an old record album cover (I got The Village People and I was jealous of my friend's Kilroy Was Here). The menu isn't huge - choose between New York or Chicago Deep Dish style, size, and toppings. We ordered the large deep dish with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, and onion. It took a while, which gave us time to go over the trivial pursuit cards at each table. The older ones were quickly tossed in place of the 80s ones. Be aware, it takes a while to get your food, so don't go if you are absolutely starving, or if you are get an order of their garlic bread. Eventually we got our pie, and while I usually go for New York-style, you can never beat the crust of a deep dish. Everyone used forks and knives and while it wasn't as covered in meat as you might get from Westshore, the crust made up for it. You also might want to check out the beer case as they have a great selection of craft beers.

30 years in Florida and this is the best pizza we have found in the whole state. Don't forget to get their Greek salad as well. Try it you'll like it.

Great pizza, cheese bread, calzones, and salad. The Greek salad is so good and fresh here. We always get a standard pepperoni pizza and is always delicious :-)

Great pizza! I've only had the New York style, but others in our group have had the Chicago style and they enjoyed it. The New York style is crispy but not too thin. Great selection of toppings. Service has always been great: quick and friendly. The servers are always busy but never neglectful. Nice selection of beers, including local brews. The outdoor seating is nice but watch the weather!

It was after 9 on a Saturday night, and I was craving pizza - good pizza. I remembered hearing good things about Cappys so I looked up the hours online - open til 10 PM on Saturdays, good to go! We pulled up to a cute, small building on the corner and sat ourselves at a large booth. The vibe inside the restaurant is fun and welcoming, with charm that will appeal to a variety of people, from families to young 20-somethings. I struggled deciding between the NY Style and Chicago deep dish pizza. At the urging of my boyfriend, we went with deep dish, which had an excellent, flavorful crust that remained crisp even under the heaping pile of toppings. We created a pizza with fresh tomatoes, artichokes, mushrooms, meatballs & pepperoni, and it was a touch decision not to overeat and instead be able to enjoy leftovers the next day.

  • Andy S.

This is great pizza and the little house that the restaurant is located in is so cool. There is outdoor seating which is very nice when the weather is cool. The inside of the place is very cozy, with wood booths and decorated with movie posters all over. There are not many places that are like this, it's very unique. The service at times is a little bit touch and go. If you come then you may need to be a little bit patient with your server. Besides that, absolutely no complaints. The menu is pretty basic, basically just pizza, calzones and some salads. However that's what most people come for so it usually works out okay.

The best pizza in St. Pete? Seriously? Are you guys on acid? This was glorified frozen pizza, at best. Crust was lame , sauce sucks, cheese was just ok. I can't believe I wasted 15 minutes of my life waiting to be seated at this place. I've had better pizza at airports. Would've given it one star but their beer selection is pretty bad ass. Love my beer!

  • Jessica J.

Excellent service. Phenomenal Pizza. If you like deep dish, this is the place to be. My only complaint is their limited hours! Also I love the retro theme inside. For example, the Trivial Pursuit cards on the tables from the 80s.. fun way to pass the time while you wait for your food. And also the menus are printed on the back of old record sleeves. Makes you feel like you've stepped into a time warp. Customer Service - A++++++ We ordered a pizza for take out tonight. When we went to pick it up, they had accidentally given the pizza to another customer, and we had to wait for them to re-make it. But how could we be mad? They gave us a free drink while we waited, an entire FREE large pizza (in addition to the one we already paid for), and extra cheese bread. Jeez... these people really know how to keep their customers happy. And for that Cappy's, you get 5 stars.

Nice pizza place in a house. They have serve yourself beer..... I know right. Known for their thick crust Chicago style pizza, with a fair New York style. The also have calzones and other options. It can fill up quickly, when you get there immediately put your name for a table on the chalk board, and grab yourself a beer.

Not sure what the 4 and 5 stars were, the deep dish that we had was below average. The sauce was ok and the service was below par. Ac not keeping up with the building. Not a place that I will return. Noise level was horrible. Overall, wasted money and time to come.

decent pizza. just came back from New York, so having the New York style pizza was a big disappointment honestly. crust was too crunchy and hard! the toppings and sauce were okay though.

I lived in the bay area for over 20 years and this is best pizza place I've seen. They have great pizzas, great service, and this particular location is a cool set up. I also appreciate how easily they take orders for vegan pizza. I do wish they would abolish tipping though, just read this paragraph: Studies have shown that tipping is not an effective incentive for performance in servers. It also creates an environment in which people of color, young people, old people, women, and foreigners tend to get worse service than white males. In a tip-based system, nonwhite servers make less than their white peers for equal work. Consider also the power imbalance between tippers, who are typically male, and servers, 70 percent of whom are female, and consider that the restaurant industry generates five times the average number of sexual harassment claims per worker. And that in many instances employers have allegedly misused tip credits, which let owners pay servers less than minimum wage if tipping makes up the difference. Citations for those claims can be found here: washingtonpost.com/blogs…

Awww, Cappy's - I just can't stay mad at you. My subsequent visits have been absolutely PERFECT. Service issues seem to have been resolved. They appear to be keeping a closer watch on arriving customers and not allowing people to disappear into the booths, never to be acknowledged again. Simply the best pizza I have had anywhere in Florida in three years. All in a completely unique location and atmosphere. I love you Cappy's, and I wish to have an alternative life-partnership with you (if my girlfriend will allow it).

Visiting from NYC. The pizza is great but the crust is WAY too thick to be called a New York pie. Thin it up a bit and you guys are set.

Our takeout calzones were as delicious as I remembered them being a decade ago at the south Howard Ave. location, but missing two of the four ordered ingredients. The un-isolated kitchen can make eating-in noisy, but that's more than made up by the unpretentious and fun atmosphere. Cappy's is a great neighborhood family restaurant.

Good pizza. Cool environment. Good selection of beer. Even had Blue moon on tap, served in blue moon glasses with an orange! Trivia at the table. Salad was yummy and pizza was Delish. Coming back!

Excellent pizza! In an area short on good pizzerias, Cappy's is the clear choice. We ordered a NY style pie (extra done) and it was excellent. Fresh ingredients and decent price are why I give tlit 4 stars.

Yet another St Pete "institution" that is seriously mediocre. Shit was straight cardboard. Even the reviews of this place are bland to the point that I wonder if this entire town's restaurant scene is some version of my own personal hellacious Truman Show . . . 'heard good things, New York!!! vs Chicago!!!, I think I'm a pizza expert, blah blah blah . . .' Ugh, fuck all that. If you can't just up and say it was good pizza, it wasn't good fucking pizza.

I ate here a few nights ago for the first time since I returned from culinary school a month or so ago. I have to say, I was even more blown away this visit than before, because apparently good pizza is hard to find in Northern California outside of San Fran and I hadn't had decent pizza for a year (oh the paiiinnnnn). So I was a little surprised to read some sub-par reviews. I decided to check it out for myself. Rest assured....this place is still putting out amazing pizzas. Thick, thin, Chicago, New York, New Guinea, whatever!!' it's all good. Maybe before complaining about how this place is "garbage" and "tastes like cardboard" consider the idea that you just asked for a crappy combination of toppings. Take your childish rants elsewhere, my pizza is getting cold.

Great neighborhood spot! Has both deep dish Chicago Style Pizza and the thinner crust, New York Style varieties. Simple menu- pizzas, a range of toppings, a few salads and bread sticks. That's about it. But Cappys is so much more. Cappys has a great craft beer/cider selection that you choose yourself. The best part of the whole experience is the FROSTED GLASS FREEZER. I dont know why I love this so much- but you get to choose your own kind of frosted glass- from mugs to stout glasses. It's a really fun, homey touch to go and pour your own glass of beer. Not to mention the pizza is great! I love the veggie pizza or just mushroom and onions. Also, they put their menus on awesome albums- I've had the Mr. Roboto Styx album twice now. Also, the outside seating is really cute out on the lit patio- makes for a nice night in St. Pete away from the Downtown rush.

My friends and I stopped at Cappys on the way back from the beach. The menus are laminated replicas of record albums! How creative is that? The Greek salad is big enough to share with several others. They include a few big scoops of potato salad within the Greek salad, which is an unusual, but delicious surprise. The bar area, although small, is welcoming. There's a large TV., perfect for watching a game and the beer selection is quite nice, complete with plenty of imports to suit your fancy. There's a nice sized patio, too...something for everyone!

Great NY style pizza! Try "The Cappy"! Quick service on a Friday night. We will make sure to become regulars here.

Love Cappy's St Pete! Great outdoor seating - nostalgic inside of an old house! Good TV's for sports - friendly staff - and the Pizza *** Rocks! ***

If you like a pizza with a mushy canned tomato sauce with no seasoning and limited toppings this is the place to go to .Also expect poor service and a $40 bill for a medium pizza and salad.

I'm from the Chicagoland region and have become a pizza critic throughout the years as my love of the food traveled with me throughout the States and the world. I've tasted the good and the bad. I recently came to the Bay Pines area and decided to give Cappys a try. It has rave reviews and boasts its Chicago-style pizza. I ordered a small deep dish pizza (extra cheese, sausage, and pepperoni) to go. The level of "deepness" was nowhere near that of Ginos or Giordanos in Chicago, but it was a solid attempt. Compared to those Chicago pizzerias, the toppings weren't as plentiful but were still savory. Staff was absolutely fabulous. I messaged Cappys on Facebook to tell about my experience, and the owners wrote back a personal, caring response and offered a free pizza to make of for any shortcomings. First off, rarely do you see owners of restaurants with the attitude "the customer is always right". Not only did they show genuine appreciation of my feedback, they offered the complimentary pizza which was something I was not expecting. They were receptive to my message and made amends. That shows their commitment to their customers, hands down. On my second try at the restaurant, Cappys proved to be an excellent choice. I ordered a New York style pizza (don't let that scare you if you're adverse to that type of pie; it's more like an original-type crust and not ultra-thin.) with extra cheese, mushrooms, garlic, and sausage. The pizza was a hit. Very generous portions and like before, the staff was extremely courteous and friendly. I enjoyed the place so much so that I went in last night with a friend for a calzone. It was one of the largest calzones I have ever gotten from a pizza place, and the toppings were really packed in there. I could literally see the heat escape from the piping-hot calzone as it was set on the table. So much flavor in every bite, and the price is very reasonable. I would highly recommend Cappys for those looking for a quality pizza, friendly atmosphere, and well established pizza place that isn't one of the chains.

I've finally found pizza worth eating in the Tampa Bay area. After too many episodes of eating at pizza restaurants that serve pizza that tastes like it just came out of the grocery store freezer section, Cappy's has great thin pizza, with just the right amount of ingredients and cooked properly. I also had a Greek salad which was very good. The location was very nice, not another strip mall, and the price was reasonable as well. Service was a bit slow to start but got better over time. Menus are affixed to record album covers which is a nice touch. Definitely worth returning to.

Neighborhood pizzeria ! Best kept secret in St Pete. We tried there Greek salad and New York pizza.. I must say the Greek salad was much better than most and the New York style pizza, well being from Chicago, I can honesty say, it's not bad! I am tired of bad sauce, and limpy crust around town, Cappy's was solid, sauce was perfect and you can actually taste all the ingredients..yes, the crust was perfect! Price was about right for too. I failed to mentioned, the beer selection was great except my brand was not on the list..nevertheless this was not a deal killer...I am returning..

So much potential here, but it falls a little short. I know most people think of Chicago style as deep dish, but as another reviewer has correctly pointed out, native Chicagoans know from good pizza, and thin crust is definitely a strong point in the windy city pizza oeuvre. (Smell me, goin' all French on your ass!) We've had the deep dish on our jaunts here, and I swear the crust was different on our last visit. It was doughy and rather bland. I hope they haven't changed their recipe. A true Chicago deep dish should have a crispy, buttery corn meal crust that holds up well to the toppings. They also do what I call "Florida sausage", that is, small crumbly bits that are neither flavorful nor plentiful. Ya gotta do the blobs, baby! And season those puppies with some oregano, fennel, and basil! This will still work if you're really jonesing for a pan pizza, especially if you can do without sausage, and I should add that their salads are stellar. The Craftsman bungalow is also a nice setting. We've had the same waitress each time we've been here, and she has been great; Friendly, attentive, but not intrusive and acting like we're long lost best friends. Overall an OK choice for pizza in Peter's burg. With a couple of tweaks, it could be great.

The deep dish veggie is to die for! Sweet tomato sauce and plenty of veggies in a buttery deep dish crust! They also have a nice variety of bottled beers to choose from. Order from the back of an old record cover and enjoy your amazing pizza in one of the rooms of an eclectic historic bungalow!

WOW! Cappy's is so good it should be outlawed. Ok I'm soooo Kidding! Don't outlaw it. Seriously though, I've lived in Florida for over 2 years and for some strange reason had never tried cappys. I'm a pizza lover so I thought I tried the best ones I found on Yelp - dozens of places in total. There's a few decent pizza places but I can say without hesitation Cappy's is th BEST PIZZA IN ST. PETE! And I happen to LOVE both their pizza styles... NY and Chicago! Both are amazing! Whatever you do, find the time to try Cappy's because you only get a 5 hour window each day - that's the one minor flaw. But as a business owner myself, I completely understand and support their business model. By opening only for dinner they get rid of their expensive overhead and ensure they are always have a very healthy crowd because all they regulars know they need to come at night. Furthermore, it ensure they are always busy so servers get better tips and are happier, all around a very smart business plan with an AMAZING product! Check them out!!!!!!!

Love Cappy's! Currently our favorite pizza place in St. Pete. We've taken out there twice. First time we got their signature "The Cappy" NY style pizza and it was delicious. More recently we took out there for the second time and got the same signature pizza, but as a deep dish. Also excellent. The sauce is delicious...not too sweet like some. Very fresh tasting. The crust was also perfect and buttery. I'm not a big pizza crust eater, but I ate this one! Only complaint on the deep dish was that there didn't seem to be a ton of toppings. Have yet to actually dine there so don't know what service is like, but they always seem pleasant on the phone :)

We moved to the area last Oct and tried the place out. We first ordered their Chicago Deep Dish and were very disappointed. It was more like a thick crust Sicilian than a deep dish. Too much sauce, not enough cheese or toppings and the crust was dry and tasteless. Then we tried the NY thin crust and while it was better, the pizza was very light, skimpy on toppings and cheese. We decided to go elsewhere for our weekly pizza fix. The other day I decided to try them again. Maybe in a year they might have made changes. We tried the deep dish again and nothing has changed except the pizza wasn't cut! I've heard good things about their salads and a calzone that I saw while I was waiting looked OK. So if we go back it will be to try those 2 items. You can be assured it won't be for the pizza. 3 strikes and Cappy's is out.

I am *not* a fan of deep dish pizza, or as my brother says, "It's not pizza, it's CheeseSaucePie." My delight at hearing about great New York style pizza at a place in St. Pete that featured CheeseSaucePie was tinged with trepidation. (I've suffered through a lot of bad pizza...I'm looking at you, Domino's and Pizza Hut!) Upon entering Cappy's, the smell of deliciousness wafts through the olfactories, creating an immediate blissful state of delicious anticipation. The thin crust pizza was terrific. The people were friendly. The pizza and cheese bread we ordered arrived rocket-hot. Pizza + Cappy's = Bliss.

I don't hand out four stars unless perfection is achieved. This place earned it on my visit. I actually used Yelp to find it since I got off the beaten track and just felt the urge for pizza. They have excellent draft beer and bottled beer choices. I went with a draft ale and it was strong and good. They bring you out a salad in a bowl already dressed and plenty of it. I am not sure how others feel but I was pleased. The salad was fresh and very tasty. The pizza I ordered was their basic meat lovers with a New York crust. It was a bit on the thin side which is exactly the way I like it. The 12 inch or normal size pizza is plenty of food and is as large as their menu so if you want to know, just look at the big menu. The menu itself has very little on it. You get pizza and beer and not much else. But do you need anything else? They might have had pasta or some other stuff but why bother? The pizza was cooked just the way I like it with a bit of a well done feel to the crust. I hate a doughy pizza where the top is never cooked right. This pizza was very good and one of the best I have had in a long time. The staff was not very attentive but every once in a while checked in on me. I didn't mind this, I wanted to just pig out on my pizza dining alone in my little world. The decor is very old 1960's flair with movie memorabilia and more. At each table are older cards of the game Trivial Pursuit. Each eating area is fairly small and quaint so you can sort of hide in the place. If I was single, it would be a nice place to take a date. Overall, this was really good and I highly recommend it to the pure pizza lover.

Deep Dish here. It's what they do best? Good beer, service ambiance. Good place to dine with kids... Stick with the deep dish here.

Wow, my boyfriend was looking for New York style pizza he found it. Even my overly picky daughter liked it. I'm not a huge pizza fanatic and I even liked it!!! I love the whole ambiance of the place. Old record sleeves for the menus, alot of memorabilia everywhere you look. You can also sit outside in front and eat as well. Luckily, the night we went it was nice outside. I can't wait to try the deep dish (Chicago style).

Deep dish pizza = CHICAGO. Yes it does, & I traded living in chicago w deep dish pizza and lots of cold snow and rain to live in sunny fl!!! BUT it's been a pain eating finding some good deep dish pizza, and just settling with frozen tombstone. UNTIL NOW!!! Everything here where we live is New York style, well since I have lived in Chi all my life, that is so not good to me. I came to Cappy's upon Yelp's reviews. I did not want to have any high expectations whatsoever. I came here greeted by our waitress who was so very friendly. I loved how the place was an old fashioned house. There was a nice patio to sit outside and enjoy the outdoors with my dog. We ordered a tossed salad with the house dressing, and deep dish pizza with pineapple and ham. She stated the house dressing was home made and the rest of the dressings were bottled. The house dressing was yummy. The small salad came in a huge bowl that you can mix your salad with the dressing your self. It is pretty good size for 2-3 people. So I asked about how long it would take to make the pizza, she said 20 minutes. I automatically knew it was not the deep dish I am accustomed too. That deep dish takes about 45 min. That is okay. I like that it takes shorter time and she thoroughly explained the thickness to me. It is not as thick as the deep dish pizza, but that's okay. 20 min later, here it comes, and I take a bite, and say ok...and then another. I loved the crust and the sauce. I like a lot of sauce and it had chunks of tomatoes I like it even more, now I am to the point where if I love the pizza the crust gets eaten last. The cheese was not as cheesy as other deep dish pizzas, but that's okay. I realize this is their version, and it is a good one, it's a keeper yey!! Try this place out, and if you want new york style pizza, you will find it here too. P.S. This place is in a neighborhood setting so the view is the street and the houses. The street looks like it gets pretty busy so take caution of that if you have kids. I always saw people coming in and out and picking up their pizza. Cappys definitely has great fans, and now I see why!! P.P.S I am excited to see that they have 4 locations, brandon, s. tampa, st. petersburg, and seminole heights. They so need one here by n. tampa and wesley chapel now!!!

I soooo wanted to love this place. With it's great reputation and charming ambience, plus the fact that it's so close to my house, I really was expecting great pizza. I tried both the New York and Chicago Deep Dish, both of which were bland and not very good at all. The two people that I was dining with totally agreed. The bread sticks and Greek salads, however, were AWESOME. I will probably never go there for pizza again, but it's definitely worth going back for a great salad.

You cannot imagine how NICE the workers of this family owned business are. They welcomed me like I was at their house. The pizza was great, a concoction one of the brothers had come up with featuring sausage, onions and pineapple. The building has a lot of charm, Historic Kenwood style in yellow brick. The inside is cozy and decorated homey. Lots of room to enjoy a slice outside in Sunny St. Pete.

We come here often and always get the Cappy and a Greek Salad. You can also pick your favorite beer yourself out of their refrigerator. They have a unique oven where the pizza is rotating as it cooks. This is hands down my favorite pizza anywhere.

My wife and I enjoy their Chicago style deep dish pizza, good crust and good pizza; we've ordered it with vegetarian toppings so far. This is the only place in town so far that we've gone to repeatedly for Pizza. High praise from us since we make amazing Pizza at home and thus are disappointed by most restaurant pizza. A side benefit is Trivial Pursuit cards at each table, a pleasant distraction while awaiting good food.

i actually really like this place even though i give 3 stars. the pizza is good (not fantastic), the salads are good (not fantastic) ... the beer selection is great as is the service and the casual atmosphere. we will go back, and do...over and over again oh and by the way, don't wait for a beer, go grab one out of the cooler when you are ready

So I found this place during my sophomore year of college and it is my go-to sit-down pizza restaurant. They have a very nice/cute outside area that is lit up at night. Sitting outside can be awesome with friends or on a date, the atmosphere is not one to forget. If you want to bring your doggy friend, water will even be brought out! On a college budget, this is a great college joint. Coming from Chicago, this is one of the best deep dish pizzas that I have come across outside Chicago. Service is nothing but exceptional. I would highly suggest checking this place out!

Been here several times and now they remember us because we bring our dog with and sit outside. Even though the weather has been hot lately, the outdoor patio always seems to have a breeze and there are umbrellas in the corner if the sun is hitting you. The waitress is always extremely friendly and she always brings a water bowl for my pup. Food is consistently good and a great beer selection. You select your own beer by going into their fridge. Frozen mugs are in the other cooler by the door and make that beer just oh so delicious! - Parking is easy either out front or in the lot next door.

I have heard really good things about this place. They weren't true. We ordered a pizza with ham, sausage, onions and mushrooms. The meat was diced into little tiny pieces which I thought was really strange. Overall, the biggest issue was that it lacked flavor. I thought it was kinda pricey for what you get. Also, they don't open until 5:00pm.

Despite my extensive travels recently, I somehow managed to score a hot date upon my return from a 2 week long trip. I originally had envisioned something fancy. However, my brainstorming session reminded me of a quaint little pizza place I see every evening on my way home from work: Cappy's Pizza. Cappy's is almost impossible to miss. It's string lighting stands out like a sore thumb as you drive through the dimly lit section of 1st Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL. The seating configuration at Cappy's is great. Booths, tables, or outside seating. I like booths. Theyre cozy and out of the way. I want to blend in and not be stared at. The atmosphere inside is great! Wooden floors, white walls, colored window trim with classic pictures and paintings decorating the walls. Their choice of music: 30's-40's pop. I remember wondering why the place was so lit up inside. If it were me, I would dim the lights a little at night. It sets a better mood. What do I know though? Im just some jebrone. First things first: beer. They have a great selection in bottles. However, if you dont know what you want you have to get up and get it from their fridge near the kitchen. Which is fine I suppose. I feel uncomfortable doing that kind of thing. It's like digging around in someone else's fridge. But they happened to have a Brooklyn brew I hadnt seen before. It was delicious. My date chose Dos Equis. I was particularly hungry so we ordered a breadstick app. I highly recommend this. The breadsticks were baked perfectly. Crispy outside, hot & soft innards. The taste was rich and the portion was bountiful. Next we decided to go with the chicken, spinach and artichoke heart NY style pizza. Now...we wait. The pleasant thing about Cappys is they leave a stack of trivial pursuit cards on the table so you can impress your friends by knowing that Minneapolis is, in fact, west of St. Luis, for example. This killed some time and kept me from ogling across the table. Before we knew it... PIZZA TIME!! I served my girl first, like a gentleman. I couldnt wait to try this slice. The presentation was good. I dont think the picture I uploaded truly represents the pizza. It looked alot better in person. However, I must say the slice was somewhat bland. The cheese & sauce were missing flavor. My date disagreed, but I need to lay down goon hand here... bland. The crust was kind of burnt on the underside. However, the rest of the toppings were satisfactory. All in all, I wasnt too impressed with the pizza. I think every pizza chef has a bad day... maybe I walked in on the wrong Saturday. I would go back to Cappy's again. Its a one of a kind establishment. Maybe next time I will try the deep dish.

Ordered a pizza and asked for extra cheese. Brought it home and it had anything but. Called the manger and he said "I made it myself" and hangs up on me. Their Chicago style is average at best...a step above Pizza Hut in my book as it is. I grew up in Chicago myself; anybody can tell you deep dish does not translate into doughy crust. I'll stick to the Seminole Heights or South Tampa location for a good New York style pizza if I'm in the mood.

This is the only pizza I eat since they opened. I love the New York style. The sauce is great, sometimes I order plain cheese just to enjoy the pure pizza loveliness. Crispy crust! I like the help yourself beer fridge as well. The staff is super friendly. Oh the Greek salad is really good too. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Probably some of the best pizza in the st pete area. Try the deep dish. Other places say they have deep dish pizza. this is damn close for being 1000 miles away from the real deal. takes about thirty minutes to make but it is extremely worth it.

Best pizza I've found since moving to st pete, without having to go to a fancy italian joint ( they normally make more authentic traditional italian pizza, which is always better to me) besides Cappys...everywhere else around seems to use the same phony sauce/cheese, but cappys always tastes fresh and original. Ny style is great. Never have a problem with service, but we never eat in so i can't comment on that. Normally wait about 10-15 minutes, but never more than 20 even during primetime on a friday night. Menus are printed on old record sleeves which its pretty cool. Bottom line is.... there's really not better pizza around and its pretty damn good. Its my go-to.

I just wrote a review for CDB Pizza in Tampa and was reminded how delicious my recent experience here was. The location is adorable and the interior reminded me of an authentic city style pizzeria. I've never considered myself a fan of chicago style pizza... the crust is too thick and I end up feeling unpleasantly stuffed after one slice. This experience has changed my mind! The sauce was flavorful, the ingredients and toppings were well balanced, delicious, and fresh. The crust was perfect - a little crispy but still soft inside. Yum! I went with a group of 8. We ordered way too much food. Two large pizzas, a caesar salad, a greek salad, cheesy bread and garlic sticks and several pitchers of beer. The vegetarian pizza was delicious (my preference) and the greek salad was better than the caesar. The cheesy bread better than the garlic sticks (not surprising - what doesn't taste better with cheese?!?!). Our group loved the atmosphere, we had a great time and enjoyed the Trivial Pursuit cards at the tables. Since I live in Tampa I'm interested in trying the S. Tampa location which I understand is the original. I'll be hitting them up soon!

I wouldn't think of getting pizza anywhere else in the 'Berg. Cappy's does everything well from vegetarian pizzas to a carnivore's dream slice. I've probably eaten here 6 or 7 times and every time have had an excellent experience. I've recently hopped on the deep-dish bandwagon and have been loving it.

We strolled in at 9:30pm on a Saturday night, starving. Our server was too busy texting to clean the tables, so we had to pick the least filthy one. Once she took our order, she was either wearing an onion bracelet or the owners need to introduce her to a bar of soap and a shower. Immediately after we placed our order we wanted to change a topping, but our server was too busy with her Twitter to tell the kitchen in time. She also messed up the table next to ours. The pizza was definitely good and the salad was even better. However, the owners need to know that customers come in for good food AND decent service! Otherwise, anybody could order Dominos delivered to a locker room and eat on the floor.

We just returned from pizza at Cappys with eight friends - none of whom had been there before. Not only did we have a great time sitting outside in our beautiful Florida weather, but everyone loved the pizza. I am partial to the Greek salad. So much so that I even bought a bottle of the dressing to take home. My daughter originally recommended the restaurant to us, and she's a foodie so I always listen to her. We love it and so does everyone we've taken there. The service is not always fast because everything is made to order. So sit back, relax and enjoy!!!

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
